A Rare LNER Double Line Block Indicator

This is a stunning and very rare LNER (London and North Eastern Railway) double line block indicator and are always desirable among signalling collectors, it is an excellent example of our industrial heritage, and as a decorative item it stands in a room with a warm comanding presence due to its mix of colourful enamel dials and touchable glass and wooden case with brass fittings and has retained its ex railway service patina. Absolute block signalling is a British signalling block system designed to ensure the safe operation of a railway by allowing only one train to occupy a defined section of track (block) at a time. Each block section is manually controlled by a signalman, who communicates with the other block sections via telegraph. This system was used on double or multiple lines where use of each line is assigned a direction of travel before the introduction of track circuits, and is still used on lines which lack track circuiting.

The London and North Eastern Railway (LNER) was the second largest (after LMS) of the "Big Four" railway companies created by the Railways Act 1921 in Britain. It operated from January 1923 until nationalisation on January 1948. At that time, it was divided into the new British Railways' Eastern Region, North Eastern Region, and partially the Scottish Region.

Condition  - is very good used condition. It has knocks, scratches and enamel wear as expected for an item of this age and environment of use. The electronics have not been tested. The brass and wood has been polished and there is some flaking and repairs to the top enamel dial.
