Description
A very good group of antique WWI handwritten letters, real photo postcards and photographs from a serving soldier.
His name was Howard Cliff, and he served as a Wessex Field Ambulance Sergeant from 1915 to 1918. The letters are all written home, starting with his training in England to service in France at a field hospital. He talks about gas attacks and treatments.
The letters date from June 2nd 1915 to January 17th 1918. The postcards are all unused and show the various training camps, groups of men, places in France and family photos.
Some of the letters have brief typed translations.
An interesting group of letters that would benefit from further research.
Dimensions are for the largest pages, all written in pencil.
