Description

A very rare and attractive handwritten document dated October 1679, but refers to proceedings in 1654 of the Halmote Courts., and a John Eltringham. Being a petition regarding the inhabitants of Byers Green in County Durham. It is signed by every male resident of the village, and was written at Auckland Castle, and signed Lord Crewe Bishop of Durham.
Surname signatures of the residents include:

Douthwaite
Parkins and a few others.
It is written in a good legible hand on watermarked paper.

Paper is a bit grubby, a small tear not affecting the text. Folded.
